Microsoft to Motorola: Pay us and we’ll leave you alone

Microsoft Motorola Patent Settlement
Microsoft (MSFT) doesn’t enjoy beating up nerds, it just wants their lunch money. At least, that’s the message Microsoft was apparently trying to send to Motorola on Tuesday when two of its lawyers posted a message on the company’s official blog asking the Google (GOOG) owned device manufacturer ever-so-nicely to come up with an appropriate settlement to put all those nasty patent suits in the past.
“Microsoft has always been, and remains open to, a settlement of our patent litigation with Motorola,” wrote Brad Smith and Horacio Gutierrez. “As we have said before, we are seeking solely the same level of reasonable compensation for our patented intellectual property that numerous other Android distributors — both large and small — have already agreed to recognize in our negotiations with them. And we stand ready to pay reasonable compensation for Motorola’s patented intellectual property as well.”
The attorneys’ stance on the Motorola litigation is largely consistent with Microsoft’s overall approach to patent suits as a whole, as the company has shown itself more than happy to settle for royalties in exchange for using its technology.
